Mirrored

by Mike Acker

As my memories of my father and mother
were accumulating, they became like
rough pearls growing larger and larger
with the surfaces uneven, rough;
their strengths and weaknesses
seeming to form ridges and some sharpness,
but as time has flowed over them they have
smoothed out to a finer, and finer surface,
until now, when I look back, I am shocked
to see a faint image of myself in both
of their now almost mirror-like finishes.
