The Hole in the City Pool

by J. Richard Kron

It sucks in everyone who gets too close.
It rips off the limbs of larger swimmers
and swallows kids whole,
leaving behind not so much as a fingernail.

There’s no way for anyone
to fix the problem
without getting close enough
to get sucked in.

The bigwigs in charge refuse
to close the pool. With dollar signs
in their eyes, they say swimmers
need it more than ever.

The hole is on that side,
so try not to swim
too close to that area.
Have fun, son.
