Dispatches from Rovil 4

by Matthew Daley

some days
you can’t stop calculating
the distance between A and B

some days
you can’t stop wondering
if anyone looks at the photos you send

some days
you can’t stop believing
that this place is nothing but gray dust

some days
you can’t stop reminiscing
about faces you can’t remember

some days
you can’t stop counting
the calories you can’t intake

some days
you can’t stop dreaming
through every waking moment

some days
you can’t stop praying
just to fill your own silence

some days
you can’t stop longing for
everyday inconveniences back home

some days
you can’t stop looking
at a sky only you can see

some days
you can’t stop wishing
someone will fall from the heavens

some days
you can’t stop thinking about
the things you shouldn’t think about
