Dreaming of a Small Town

by K. A. Williams

Roadwork and traffic everywhere
you drive around the city.
So much pollution is in the air,
it's such an awful pity.

People and buildings multiply
in their endless quest for space.
Wildlife and forests soon will die,
and that will be a disgrace.

Tales of murder and other crimes
fill the newscast every night.
Should you hide inside? Shut the blinds?
It's hard to live in fright.

Imagine the world of a small town
where the pace of life is slow.
When stress in the city breaks you down,
it's really time to go.
