It’s well known that an artist becomes more popular by dying, so I’m typing this with one hand while pummeling my head with a frozen mackerel with the other. I have been staff writer and artist for two local newspapers, the Atlanta Suburban Reporter and the Fulton County News-Daily.

I do art and graphic design in Adobe Photoshop, please view some at my website. The other mediums I use are: charcoal (messy, but strongly sets a mood, usually brooding); colored pencils (love the way the colors blend); colored pens; and pen-and-ink. The subjects I draw are eclectic, everything from pristine rural scenes to unsettling surrealism.

I’m a staff member of Skyline magazine in New York. My art has been published in magazines such as:

Appalachian Heritage
Atlanta Buckhead
Clark Atlanta University
Contraband
Country Folk
Fantasy, Folklore & Fairytales
Georgia Journal
Georgia State Review
Good Dog
Heist
Iconoclast
In the Spirit of the Buffalo
Indigenous Fiction
Liquid Ohio
Medicinal Purposes
New Writer’s
Outer Darkness
Poets, Artists & Madmen
Potpourri
RescueCats
Skylark
Skyline
Spellbound
Starblade
Talebones
The Clay Tablet
The MacGuffin
The Legions of Light Magazine
Tropical Fish Hobbyist
Urban Spaghetti

and others.

My art work has also appeared in Seeing Through Symbols, a literary anthology published by Chrysalis Books. I’ve been a contributing artist for Creative Loafing, an Atlanta weekly with a circulation of 300,000; and Shroder Publishing’s three monthlies in Atlanta, with a combined circulation of 28,000. I do art for the Red Cross in Atlanta, Meals On Wheels, and the City of Atlanta. Part of these assignments is to (usually quickly) illustrate a short story or article.

My art has also appeared on several commercial websites such as Wee Ones and Ron’s Marbles & Things. I did computer animation for the Matrix board at the Atlanta Stadium, depicting the Braves and the Falcons.

Please hurry with your response — this mackerel’s killin’ me!

Sincerely, Steve Cartwright
