Veil of Years
by Brenda Mox
Her smile drew his attention
from the desperate hope hidden
there in her eyes when seeing an old love
through the veil of many years.
Searching for the touch from the one long left,
she witnessed the peace of his dear, sweet cleft.
His eyes flickered with temptation
and moist new tears
for the icon of his heart’s adulation.
Her kiss brought life to his heart of stone
as her sorrowful eyes mirrored the longing in his own.
When he began to climb from the abyss of abstinence,
her scent swept every pain from his aching limbs.
His life’s old cares seemed distant nonsense.
Sharing with her his body reborn,
the wind dried the tears from his empty life’s dross,
the life left behind now only a silent moan.
Her love, woven into his soul’s weft,
was but a reflection of his own.
Sitting silently side by side,
speaking soul speech in tranquil harmonies,
both knew where they’d always reside.
