Contemplation

Pondering the flame of a burning candle
Or an ocean wave crashing upon the shore
Wind blowing through the forest trees
While feeling the same breeze against my skin
Tiny minnows swimming in shallow water
As birds sit and chirp on the telephone wires
Flower petals opening in the morning light
And fireflies flickering their lights at dusk
A baby’s cry emanating from a nearby room
As I lie awake trying to recall last night’s dreams
Random thoughts meaningless perhaps
Yet simple and beautiful as they are serene
