Obliterate Nocturnal Hours

by Sultana Raza

Why after high stars do wishes trail?
With no lights out, would brains survive?
With no slumber, where’d be our drive?
With tech can’t use darkness to cleverly veil

Their sins and crimes; so why bewail?
Why do mysteries curl happily in hours of the owl?
In tenebrous corners, why do nightmares prowl?
Why do hopes and desires in reveries sail?

If darkness we could overwrite,
Would life for the mafia become too tight?
If human beings didn’t need any sleep,
How would we delve in rêves quite deep?

Twenty-four seven if our sun shone,
How would we decipher the language of dreams,
Or interpret our unconscious streams?
But to more honesty would our psyche be prone?
