Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Andreas Britz
Andreas lives in Ireland with his spouse. He has published fiction in many digital and print publications.
“Bearskin” may raise readers’ eyebrows when Ned’s neighbour shoots a bear that has wandered into an apparently suburban area and proceeded to quaff a drink, unaccountably, from the neighbour’s swimming pool. In Canada, foxes and coywolves may roam in some urban communities, but bears — brown, grizzly, polar, etc. — have larger territories and generally rule the woods. The usual defense is pepper spray.
However, Ned is the centre of the story. He disapproves of shooting the bear rather than having Animal Control capture and remove it. Little does Ned know about bears or about his ex-wife’s powers.
