Reflections on Glass

by Jessica Lee McMillan

How the cerebellum spills over
shiny panes reflecting the sky,
a world in freehand
sketching refractions
of scattered light.

Treetops invert over glass,
branching the webbed iris
in optical flow, electrical forks
to tender nodes offshoot
cranial nerves subdividing blue,
doubling image, tips over trunk,
age over youth.

Spheres are twinned in singular stalk
like a stem for cloud-flowers
in a vision of strange,
branching where mind had fixed
but could not root
the eyes to gravity’s laws.

Scattered light
sketches refractions
of the world in freehand
on shiny panes of the sky,
how the cerebellum spills over.
