Lazy Evenings

by Melissa DeAmaral

Museums and amusement parks
Lazy evenings at the beach
Sunsets making shadows grow
Messy rows of footprints in the sand

Moonlight bleaches gentle water
And even though it’s frigid in the air
I feel a burning in my chest
That draws me toward the drowsy shore

I see my reflection stuck in the froth
The stars are blurry angel drops
Calling me softly from the sky
Go back into the ocean

I swim like a fish
I sink like a stone
