Surrender

by Nancy Diamante Bonazzoli

I have learned
that I can tolerate
my own terror
and thus I know
that I want only
to be with you again.

Let me fling before you
the jewels of the world
as I strip bare
prostrate myself
unafraid
beneath your flaming sword.

Riddle me with gashes —
plunge deeply
into my heart —

in your name alone
I surrender —

through the open wounds
the festering
grant me the strength
to sever my gangrenous will
and the grace
to allow it to decompose
with the moist womb of your
Love.
