Warm, Lazy Evening

by Harris Coverley

I. Dirt

Looking down
Hands in the soil
I feel the heartbeat
Of this world

Earthworm
Around the little finger
In my left ear
An owl croons

II. Mean

The Moon
Hangs there
A voyeur
Passing judgment
Like some drunk on
A balcony

Without any jury
Devoid of executioner

III. Shuttered

Eyeholes
Pricked
Through the sheet
Covering the sky

Two stars
In binary code
Undeciphered
By mortal mind

IV. Spiral

Milkshake
Spilled across
The blackness

Speckled
With blotches
Alight with
Realms
Yet unimagined
