Snow Queen

by Richard Ong

This visual rendition of the Snow Queen and Kay (or Kai) is an homage to Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale told in seven parts when it was first published in 1844. In my painting, the Snow Queen is depicted as a gigantic mountain goddess with metallic hands ready to grab the hapless young mountaineer, Kay, who is mesmerized by her frigid enchantment.

A translation of the original story can be found at the Hans Christian Andersen Centre web site.
