Something Inside of Me
Is Still Crying

by Stephen Ellams

Something inside of me is still crying
An indelible sorrow
Chiselled into Carrara

This troubled self-sculpture
Plinthed in poets’ corner
With Dante’s sad eyes
Tires of being alone

Beneath a glacial chasm
Of unfulfilled passion
My Florentine heart
Burns with desire

Dig deep to discover
La Vita Nuova
At the tomb of Beatrice
Lamenting lost love
