Across the Void

by Thomas R.

She started her endless trip
Left behind the past
And boarded the ship

Flew across an expanse vast
Wishing the pain to leave no trace
A life to forget at last

Nothing remained except her and space
Eons rolled by
Never to belong to any place

Instead she watched civilizations die
On her speeding home
All they offered her seemed a lie

So onward did she roam
As the stars themselves did dim
Or were hidden by a dome

Eternal darkness soon made her chances slim
She gladly accepted that fate
Died singing a little hymn

To the one thing that had eased her hate
Filled her Earthly life’s void
Before it had been too late

The Great U itself, the only love that never annoyed
