Playing the Accordion

by Hongping Liu

I played a melody of childhood,
reversing a stream.
Against the sky
a kite disappeared.

I played a tune of youth,
a river winding in a tortuous course
brushing away pebbles and dunes,
leaving me lost in thought.

I launched into a new piece;
the river’s surface widened
and a softness evolved.
My soul has taken a rest.
