Song of Spring

by Hongping Liu

Following a long winter
spring is drawing near.
Our hearts are like butterflies
unfurling from chrysalises.

Spring is at the door.
Birds are busily trysting
in the fragrant air.
Fields are no longer bare.

A new spring is stepping in rhythm
with trees in blossom
before lovers’ passage
ushering us to paradise.

Can you remember
our paradise?
The tree with forbidden fruit
and a black snake?

A hundred birds are chirping
with the Milky Way presiding.
The first melody is beginning.

The song of spring,
the music of love!
Let’s spread our wings
and fly back to our paradise.
