The story combines rural gothic horror with witchcraft and a monster from the deep. Add schoolyard bullies and a county sheriff or two, and poor little Johnny has a lot to contend with that’s straight out of Central Casting and a studio prop shop. However, Johnny is an intriguing character, and the sheriff, though friendly and appealing, is too little, too late for the boy whose life is marred by overwhelming evil.
