The Courteous Ghost

by Chuck Moss

The new family has arrived.
I’ll leave them alone.
My family is gone,
but I must stay forever.
Maybe the young children will sense my presence,
I’ve heard that they can.
I could torment the adults
by touching them in the darkness,
making some noise or moving things around.
That wouldn’t be right.
They deserve to live a happy life.
Mine ended so suddenly.
I’ll leave them alone.
