Demeanor Retracted

Of a Merck Manual I got hold —
A manual one hundred years old.
I laughed loud at some procedures told,
And at toxic medicaments untold.

Then I foresaw that a hundred years hence,
The manuals that today made sense
Would pale next to knowledge more immense.
Thus my demeanor quick lost defense.
