Miltonian Dissonance

by Marta T. Coppola

Can’t square off a portion of
this gray matter
with a red Sharpie though
she knows how it’s done.

Labels glued slick and white
right on file somewhere
between A and Z.

So much for the worthwhile
Lord Ahab and Bartleby
Princess of Sargasso Sea.

Mismatched and stitched
penny words pretend
unless burned right burned
in the blue-flamed virtue.

Or maybe any conflagration will do.
Taking time unto change time
and change and a chance
to let the colors run through.
