A Wish for the Night

by Becky Franklin

I have always wished for a night like this
With my better half, my love.
Both of us sitting on a porch swing,
The full moon shining, glimmering.
We hear the silence from the dirt road.
Nothing else around but the willow tree,
And the rose garden made into a circle
With the full moon’s light stalking over us.
Soft silence of an owl glowing in the willow,
With the moon playing our song,
He asked me to dance around the garden
and then picked just one rose
And gave me for a long moment,
A kiss for the night.
