A Cuban
Cryogenically Preserved

by John Grey

So, how many centuries
have I lain in this ice coffin?
How many world wars,
natural disasters,
loves and lives and losses,
have passed me by?
I’m willing to bet that
even Castro’s dead by now.
I will awaken to a world
that’s as unfamiliar
as what it feels like to have a baby.
Only I will be the future’s child,
And there are my parents,
23rd century technology, grinning at me.
Time to light up a cigar.
Oops... almost forgot... that’s me.
