Bewildering Stories

Challenge 281

I just read “Homebody” to compare it to my “Blackbird of Death.” Some people think my characters are “insane”? It is all about the bunny rabbit. Three of my favorite stories involve bunny rabbits: The Matrix, Watership Down, and Alice in Wonderland.

You do know the true story of the Easter Bunny? Easter Island has all those stone heads: they used to have huge rabbit ears on them but powerful storms over the centuries eroded the ears off. The island was only populated with rabbits.

One rabbit was washed out to sea and a U.S. passenger ship spotted him. He was rescued by an American farmer. The farmer let the rabbit live with his chickens. Every year on the anniversary of his rescue the rabbit would put chicken eggs on the farmer’s back porch. Thus the true story of the Easter Bunny.

Thanks for such a great reader paradise at Bewildering Stories!

Thanks for the tall... anecdote... Doug. That explains why I’ve been finding “Far Moai” in my Easter bunny basket since October 2006.

And I think Tamara’s “Homebody” and your “Blackbird” are both Bewildering Stories’ bag: not crazy, but sure far out, man!
