An Editorial Comment

I started out this thought wondering "Are all politicians crazy?" Remembering a song from oh so long ago wherein a part of the lyric asked, "Who was it created a political system where you always end up voting for the lesser of two evils?"

Then it occurred to me that politicians are the mirror of the people they lead. Assuming that "lead" is the correct term. Yes, Congressmen and Senators, Presidents, Premiers, and Tyrants. The mirror. So if THEY are crazy, it is because the people from which they spring are crazy. Yes, all of you. All around the world.

I enjoy reading Science Fiction, as well as Fantasy. Don't care much for horror, because there is a lot that in the world already. But in the fiction I read (primarily genre fiction of one sort or another) I see a common thread. People who try not to be crazy taking on a crazy world, and trying to set things, or even just one thing, straight. And even if they succeed, they fail. Because the cards and the world are stacked against them.

Y'know, most people want very much of a common thing. They want to be left alone. From the standpoint of not having someone or thing abuse their trust. We want to trust our family, our friends, our neighbors, our community, our government, etc. And guess what? The farther away the circle gets from us, the more likely our trust will be betrayed. It seems to be the nature of the system. And so we learn not to trust. And we end up looking like this guy... Yes, Iphone and all...
