Bewildering Stories welcomes...

João Ventura

We’ve had several contributors from Latin America and Spain, but João is our first from Portugal. If we had a map, we could put gold stars on it almost everywhere now.

João lives with his family in Lisbon, where he is a university professor. He loves writing short fiction; his works have appeared in print and on line, mostly in Brazil and Portugal. One of his short stories has appeared in a Lovecraftian anthology.

I learned a new word — in English — from João’s bio: “fictionist.” And it’s used in a surprising, almost... Lovecraftian... way!

We seldom receive true prose poetry. “Passing Away” is almost classic in its restrained elegance. Its sense of mystery and magic make the poem a memorable piece of work. And the English translation, which is excellent, is João’s own, by the way.

João Ventura’s bio sketch can be found here.

Welcome to Bewildering Stories, João. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
