In The Blink of an Eye

by Carmen Ruggero

Behold, he cometh with clouds;
and every eye shall see him
... Revelation 1:7

And if Your words were true, what then, I ask.
No time to consider; none for doubting.
The self will show right through my goodly mask,
not deft, I fell for the devil’s touting.

In the blink of an eye, in that short spell,
humanity’s snatched from this earthly stay;
and where, dear Father, will my spirit dwell,
should Your words be true, all the words you say.

’Cause it’s much too soon for this road to end,
’Cause I’m still a child afraid of the dark,
’Cause my essence burns and I need to mend,
and laugh and love and make my earthly mark.

’Cause I need to know why the lamb has strayed,
if Your words were true, all the words you’ve said.
