Bewildering Stories welcomes...

Beth Scott

Beth lives in Gloucester, England and has a flair for languages, especially French, Spanish and Modern Greek. So far, so good, but there’s better: rather than write essays on “boring subjects,” Beth writes stories as a way of practicing her composition skills. Talk about motivation, any teacher or professor ought to prize such initiative.

“Changeling,” in this issue, rings a change on an old theme in science fiction and fantasy: the baby who turns out to be a monster. But this story has an interesting premise: if a child can learn “the easy way” through its paranormal powers, isn’t there nonetheless a kind of law of conservation at work? That is, what the child steals for his own gain, someone else loses. And that leaves the reader wondering, where will it end?
