Challenge 201

Endings or Beginnings?

  1. Denise LeBlanc’s “The Warning” ends just as a crucial scene is about to begin. In light of what has already transpired, what do you think is going to happen?

  2. In view of current events in recent years, the scenario in Michael E. Lloyd’s “Big Night Out” is no longer a far-fetched plot for a spy story, it’s plausible realism. Do you think MI-5 will come knocking at Mike’s door? Or can he rest easy? Can he tell them “It was just a story!”

  3. Take Hungry Guy’s premise in “Sathya Downloads Bennie” a step further: What would happen if the “downloads” started downloading each other? What would happen if the real Bennie decided that his downloaded self had gotten a better deal than he and moved in on him?

What does the ending of “Sathya Downloads Bennie” have in common with the ending of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic North by Northwest? What might be the symbolism of “fire-safe cigarettes”?
  4. E. S. Strout uses a coincidental variation on Hungry Guy’s “downloads.” What scenario do you envision as a continuation of “Four’s a Crowd”?
