Is More Less?

Bewildering Stories is a weekly magazine. And as such, we are one of the few venues for novel length stories, as well as novellas. Which is why we get so many of them. We don't get as many short stories as we'd like, but hey, we have to leave something out there for the other guys. As it is, thanks to our new "control system" we have a lot more of a handle on the shape of our issues in the weeks and even months to come. But... Is "more" less?

Do we have TOO MUCH of a good thing? My slush-bounce is getting more stringent all the time, but we still have a tremendous quantity we publish every week. Most of our "compatriots", even the weekly ones, publish one or two new stories a month. Are we overwhelming? Are we putting out too many stories, too much "stuff"? I don't know. I do know that a number of our readers "pick and choose". I need to get the "webalizer" running properly so that we actually have a handle on who reads "all" our stories. Yeah, I'll just do it in my "copious free time" (tm).

Oh well. What do YOUSE guys think? Too much of a good thing? "Tighten Up"? Keep the hits (and misses) coming? Just curious.
