Bewildering Stories

Eric S. Brown writes about...

Retirement

Dear BWS gang,

I made it through Ivan. My family was hit pretty badly overall though I was OK. However, I wanted to let you guys know that I left the writing world almost a month ago. I haven't written anything in a while and I am happy compared to what I used to be. Writing had gotten too much about the vanity, the money, and the list of publications. It just wasn't fun anymore. In fact, it was terrible. So I simply stopped.

It opened up a whole new world to me. I have been able to be I hope a better husband and I certainly have had more time to enjoy life in general. I have gone back to collecting comics and reading again. Sure I have a list of publications that is fairly large like 250+ in three and half years and have sold five paperbacks since early 2003 but none of it mattered except to my ego and I am past that now.

Besides I have stuff coming out through next March and three paperbacks on the way including my first novel from Mundania Books so the world will still have some Eric stuff to read for a while if anyone out there really cares. LOL. So in closing, allow me to say thank you to all those who read and enjoyed my work and to your magazine for publishing so much of it on-line.

Hope you are well. Later,

Eric

PS. If anyone is interested, my first solo collection Dying Days was just chosen to be a Halloween special over at Silverlake Publishing and will be 10% off its normal cover price for a few weeks. Also, my last chapbook to come out. Still Dead just made the Project Pulp bestsellers list following in the footsteps of Zombies: The War Stories.

Will do, Eric. We thank you for all you’ve done for us, as well. You were the first of the “name” horror writers to send us material, and we were pleased to be adopted. You, however, have to do what is best for you, and we want you and your family to be happy. So fare thee well, friend. — Jerry
