A flatlander from Winnipeg, David Mitenko now makes his base of operations on the West Coast of Canada. When he’s not writing, Mitenko is off doing things like chasing plastic or volunteering overseas. His last permanent address was in the Maldives and his next will either be Kathmandu, New York or somewhere in Italy.
My name is David Mitenko. I am a recently returned VSO volunteer from the Maldives, where I was an IT Support Officer at the local Hospital. I happened to be there when the tsunami struck and was a part of the volunteer effort. For most of January and February I spent 13-hour days either in the hospital or helping move supplies in a converted cricket gymnasium.
Everyone plays with the idea, at one point or another, of how wonderful it would be to become evil. Especially if supernatural powers are involved. This story, “The Truth About Bats,” grew out of a late night introspective where I seriously considered what would happen if I became a vampire. I ended up laughing so hard I rolled out of bed and made a story out of it.
My publishing history includes articles published in Victoria, B.C.’s Monday Magazine and also online with luluzine. I have a B.Sc., double major in Computer Science and Sociology.
